The Syrian civil war, which has been raging for over 6 years, was described by a United Nations emergency relief coordinator to the United Nations Security Council as “a slaughterhouse, a complete meltdown of humanity, the apex of horror.” The war has killed hundreds of thousands of people and has forced more than 12 million people from their homes. Half of those affected are children.
We invite you to join the Orange County interfaith community (Muslims, Christians, Jews and other faiths) in response to this disaster by helping to provide humanitarian assistance to displaced Syrians abroad.
Mr. Shadi Martini, Director of Humanitarian Relief and Regional Relations for the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees (MFA)(www.multifaithalliance.org/mfa-team), will share his experiences during the war in Syria, his flight from Syria, and more about the current situation on the ground for both those displaced within Syria and those who have been able to leave.
Funds raised will be distributed in partnership with the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees. To date, the MFA and its partners has provided over $2,000,000 in humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees in the form of:
- Food
- Sanitary packages
- Trauma counseling
- First-aid training
- Health services specifically geared to children, adolescents, and women
- Medical equipment
- Resettlement processing
- Provision of and training in 3-D printers to produce prosthetic limbs
The Syrian refugee crisis is part of a larger global refugee crisis involving more than 65 million people displaced from their homes – the largest number of refugees since WWII.
In addition to collecting monetary donations to benefit displaced Syrians abroad, the Orange County Multifaith Alliance for Refugees is coordinating a Collection Drive to benefit recently resettled refugees within Orange County.
Items for the drive can be brought to the March 26th program for drop off. These items will be distributed to several hundred locally resettled families through Access California Services and the Tiyya Foundation. If not attending the event, please contact OCMultifaithAlliance@gmail.com to make arrangements.
To attend the event and/or to make a donation, click on the green Tickets button above. If you are registering to attend the event, we kindly request a tax-deductible minimum donation of $100 per person. Receipts for tax purposes will be in the name of “Charitable Ventures of Orange County.”
Refreshments will be served.
